  Just over 50 years ago, I moved to Mussoorie and lived in Maplewood Lodge, a cottage beneath Wynberg-Allen School. Through its windows was a hillside covered in dense forest. It was only natural for me to write about the trees, wildflowers, birds, and other animals that lived there. I have lived on the top floor of Ivy Cottage in Landour Cantonment for the past 35 years after circumstances forced me to relocate higher up the mountain. There are windows here as well, and they face the sky, clouds, the Doon Valley, and an endless stretch of mountains. And from my vantage point atop the hill, I sense that I am a part of both the natural world and the larger world, which includes mother India.
